Insect shares Forecast

What developments could there be in insects as food or feed for animals in the future? First and foremost, legal hurdles have to be overcome. In the EU, for example, insects in the form of powder are not allowed as feed for chickens or pigs.

However, it seems that it is only a matter of time before the legal hurdles fall here. Insects as food for humans will probably not come to fruition so quickly in western countries. People's reservations are too strong. Even if it is now possible to produce a certain percentage of noodles from insect powder, experts do not expect this to become the next big trend. This can be seen in the very restrained interest of consumers in the already existing range.

All securities traded on the stock exchange change in price almost by the minute, with many different factors playing a role. Shareholders, generally speaking, have been able to achieve returns of more than eight percent per year over the past 20 years if they had invested in shares in this country. To some extent, of course, there are very big differences between individual stocks in terms of performance.

Investors who are interested in a share investment should always also consider the corresponding risks. A share investment can be an attractive investment in the long run. However, as with all investment opportunities, there is no 100% guarantee and the capital is subject to a certain risk.

Pros and Cons

Moreover, although there are opportunities, there are also risks to consider:

Opportunities

  • In most cases, the cultivation of insects is much more resource-efficient than conventional methods.
  • Insects (especially the larvae of the soldier fly) are the ideal substitute for fish meal (fish feed), which is considered ecologically questionable.
  • The FAO assumes that in the future more and more people will depend on insects as food.

Risks

  • There is not yet enough research on how insects affect farm animals as feed.
  • If insects escape from the breeding station, they could possibly multiply uncontrollably and cause damage to the existing ecosystem.
  • Insects could perhaps also transmit diseases to humans as feed for animals (example: BSE).

Summary

  • There are still no pure insect stocks in which investors can invest.
  • It is still a niche.
  • However, the industry could take off strongly in terms of animal feed and as an alternative for fishmeal.
  • Insects as a food for humans is not likely to catch on any time soon; even though some products have already made it into supermarkets (sales are negligible).
  • Investment opportunities are currently only possible via major detours.
